What is Periodontal Therapy

What is Periodontal Therapy?

We do periodontal therapy to go around and clean the tissue around the teeth and it’s kind of a repetitive type therapy similar to cleaning a wound. You want to clean it, irrigate it with some medicine, get that area to heal, give the body a chance to respond and to kick in and heal that area as well and then go back in and make sure that it’s healed up. If not, then you clean the wound again and those types of therapies get great results in terms of overall healing.

What is the importance of overall health, if I’m just here for dental work?

One of the differences in our office is really our dedication to total health. We’re not just looking at our guest teeth and how they function. We’re also looking at their overall health to make sure that their systemic health is in line with their oral health, because it’s all connected and so in order for one to be healthy the whole system has to be healthy.

What is TMJ – TMD

What is TMJ – TMD?

You know a lot of people come in and say that they have TMJ and actually we all have two TMJ’s. It’s the temporal mandibular joint and that’s what opens and closes the jaw. Some people actually have TMD which is temporomandibular disorder and that can be as simple as grinding their teeth and clenching their teeth. But it also can be a little bit more severe or more advanced. It can contribute to migraines, vertigo, seashell in the ears. It can really cause some debilitating conditions and there’s some really nice non-surgical techniques that we use. It would be neuromuscular dentistry to take into account the muscles of the face and the jaw to help correct TMD and to eliminate a lifetime of pain and a lifetime of symptoms that people have really dealt with for a long time.

What is Neuromuscular Dentistry?

Neuromuscular Dentistry is analyzing the muscles that are involved in restoring people to the proper bite. Not only do we restore people to proper esthetics but we want to make sure that we’ve corrected the function and the muscles are a big part in correcting that function, so neuromuscular dentistry really takes into account the posture of the jaw, the head, the shoulders to make sure that everything works in harmony.

Are X-Rays Necessary

Are X-Rays Necessary?

A lot of people come in and want to know if dental x-rays are really necessary. The only way that we can visually see below the gum, between the teeth is through the use of dental x-rays. A lot of people have concern that the radiation they’re getting can cause problems or in conjunction with radiation that they’re having to other parts of their body. We use the latest techniques, the latest equipment to ensure that there’s a very minimal amount of radiation. And we also only take the necessary radiographs maybe once a year sometimes every two years to make sure that we’re not missing something that we visually can’t see.
